NTM Info & Research (NTMir), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed on behalf of patients with pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) disease, will hold its second national advocacy and education event in Washington, D.C. March 12-13, 2007. Please click here to access the ParticipACTION 2007 page on NTMir’s website.
NTM patients from across the country, accompanied by leading physicians, will meet with members of Congress again to further advance support at a national level for patients with NTM diseases. NTMir has previously secured language amendments in the fiscal 2006 and 2007 budget years requesting that federal agencies address issues of epidemiology and treatment of this devastating infectious lung disease. Federal agencies are in the early stage of addressing these issues.
NTMir has helped countless patients navigate the complexities they encounter during diagnosis and treatment of NTM diseases. NTMir enjoys broad support in the patient and professional communities. The organization has a distinguished board of directors, including physicians from leading research institutions, and recently expanded its acclaimed website, www.ntminfo.org. The site hosts a patient support board and 21 independent support groups across the United States, Canada and Denmark.
NTM Info & Research has assumed a leading role in the support of patient advocacy and medical research. Patients and physicians have worked in partnership to advance the cause of countless patients suffering with NTM disease.
In 2007, NTMir will launch the first group in a series of Continuing Medical Education programs in five cities. NTMir will continue to work with the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control on the implementation of research programs, and with a consortium of leading hospitals to develop multi-center trials.
NTMir provides hope for patients and encouragement for physicians, and continues to pursue an inclusive organization model as the challenges of NTM lung disease are met.
